Hundreds of students from across Blaenau Gwent began the hotly anticipated new school year at Wales’ first 3-16 school with the opening of Ebbw Fawr Learning Community on four sites across the borough. | |
More than 1,400 students began there new term in a new uniform as they, along with 120 staff, prepare to move into a new state-of-the-art, specially designed school on the Works site in Ebbw Vale over the next 12 months.
The new school already has its management team in place with an over-arching vision of both primary and secondary education that will provide students with a seamless transition between the two phases. There was great excitement from all pupils on the 3 September as they returned to lessons after the Summer break. |
students returned to school; the response to our new uniform has been terrific and we are grateful to parents for showing their support for the new Learning Community in this manner. In the secondary phase we expected just over 20% of students to turn up wearing it when in fact it was over 90% – the primary phase was almost 100%. Many students and parents have already commented on how smart they look.
“There was real excitement across all four sites at the dawn of this venture – Ebbw Fawr is truly up and running.” Blaenau Gwent families can also look forward to a brand new provision for Pen-Y-Cwm Special School, which features high quality purpose designed specialist facilities for 120 pupils. |
