On February 1st, a group of us from the Ebbw Fawr Learning Community were given the opportunity to attend Rhymney Army College for a taster day of Army life.
Upon our arrival, we entered the parade ground and congregated in groups of 10 ready for our first group task. Our objective, to build and construct a bridge and vehicle out of k’nex. After much discussion and team work, we managed to construct a sturdy bridge which could hold the weight of our constructed vehicle– a team victory to all involved.
After successful completion of our first task, we were promptly faced with more gruelling tasks. We had to complete a vigorous assault course in the cold and muddy weather, jumping through tires and crawling through damp, muddy tunnels. Despite the damp conditions, we managed to endure the hardships of the assault course.
Prior to our departure after a much enjoyed day, we rendezvoused back on the parade ground to be presented with awards for our days efforts. We were given information packs detailing Army life and the career prospects.
The day was much enjoyed by all.
