The year 9 team played their first fixture of 2013 on Thursday, March 14th against Abertillery. 16 boys turned up and 5 who came to watch requested to be involved in the next game, so although the result did not go our way we are more than pleased that the participation levels and enthusiasm is still strong.
We started well and took the lead early in the first half, with a well worked goal that built from the back and involved 6 individuals who played some lovely one touch football. Abertillery hit back soon after and with the changes that we had to make, they began to dominate the game, with only 15 minutes left we were 5-1 down. It would have been easy to leave a settled team on the field but It was decided that all the boys who turned up would have equal time on the pitch and thanks to a spirited performance by everyone we soon came back into the game.
The pack was shuffled again and we came back with three quick goals to really put Abertillery under pressure for the last 5 minutes. I think that if we were playing a competitive match and the strongest team had stayed on the field we would have won. However, we are trying to balance inclusion and participation along with the aspiration to win games. Overall I think the majority of boys were glad to just be back out on the pitch.
Final score 5-4. Man of the match was Josh Griffiths.
A big well done to all the boys who were involved and thanks to Ieuan Johnson (year 11 BG) who refereed the game for us.
