The Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales kept a promise to students when he visited Ebbw Fawr Learning Community and PenycwmSpecialSchool today following a cancellation of a previous visit due to a Cabinet reshuffle in March. The Minister had expressed his desire to personally view the new facilities incorporating both schools and the following the buildings completion in November of 2012.
The building is a unique collaboration incorporating the two schools and an integrated children’s centre and is at the forefront of Blaenau-Gwents 21st Century Schools programme. During the visit the First Minister was welcomed by senior staff from both schools and had the opportunity to see students working with the latest learning technologies.
Director of Ebbw Fawr Learning Community Graeme Harkness said “We are delighted that the First Minister has visited us today, our fourth Cabinet Minister visitor in the last two months. The building is truly a wonderful learning environment for students from both Ebbw Fawr and Penycwm and we are confident it will, in the long term, help to drive up educational standards. The First Minister was certainly impressed with the building and the concept we are trying to develop here”
Ebbw Fawr Learning Community also looks forward to occupying new secondary phase buildings in September of this year following completion of the final stage of the £51.5M project.
