Blaenau Gwent is set to play host to a unique royal visit this month as The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall celebrate the best of Welsh culture.
On Wednesday 3 July, during Wales Week, The Prince of Wales will visit Wales’s first maintained 3-16 school Ebbw Fawr Learning Community and Pen Y Cwm Special School in Ebbw Vale.
During the visit, The Prince will highlight the work of one of his charities with the national launch in Wales of Teach First – a charity which places top graduates into schools.
The Prince will meet staff and students from both schools during a tour of the new £23m building before speaking to an invited audience of over 200 guests. During the visit the Prince will also host a meeting with national business leaders to discuss Business-Education links. A plaque to mark the occasion will be unveiled. The Prince will also view some plans of the whole site development at The Works, Blaenau Gwent.
A spokesman for both schools said:
“This is a tremendous honour for us and we are delighted to welcome The Prince of Wales to view our outstanding facilities and meet our inspirational students. We also offer a warm welcome to Teach First and look forward to working with them during the new academic year.”
The visit will take place between 2.10pm and 3.10pm. However, it will be a normal school day for pupils and teachers.
Blaenau Gwent Council Leader Hedley McCarthy and Mayor Mostyn Lewis and the Mayoress will attend.
The Council does not foresee any disruptions to traffic. However, limited parking is available for the event. Please use the multi-storey car park at The Works, in Ebbw Vale.
