Fair trade week at EFLC began on the 31st March in both the primary and secondary phases with an assembly with Martha Musonza Holman, from Zimbabwe for students in KS3, KS4 and later in the day primary phase students to raise awareness of Fair Trade issues. Martha held a question and answer session at the end of the assembly with students.
Students and staff have donated FT products for a hamper to be raffled for charity to raise awareness of FT products that are available in our local supermarkets. Money raised will be donated to a local charity to help a resident, Jo Hendy from Cwm, raise funds for cancer treatment.
The Eco Committee are holding a FT “Banana Eating Competition” during break on Wednesday when students and staff will compete to eat 6 FT bananas as quickly as possible. Students are invited to pay 50p to watch the competition and the money raised will also go to Jo Hendy’s fund.
Students have been placing their loose change in a bucket in room 014, (Mrs Powell’s science studio) during the Spring term to collect “buckets of pennies for buckets of water” for a charity called Water Aid, who help disadvantaged people have clean water in other countries. We have sent a cheque for £100 to Water Aid this week. We will continue this throughout the year.
