Students at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community were today celebrating success across three age groups with students gaining their GCSE qualifications.
Yr 11 students achieved a 53 % pass rate at 5 A*- C grades including English & Mathematics. This is significantly above the schools externally set target and 14 percentage points above the final combined performance of the two Ebbw Vale schools that closed in 2012 to form Ebbw Fawr.
Students in Year 10 and Year 9 students also picked up excellent grades in a range of subjects.
Director Graeme Harkness said
“This really is a tremendous set of results for a large numbers of students. They and the whole staff team have worked incredibly hard to achieve them. Our performance over our first two years since we opened should make us one of the most improved schools in Wales. We are also pleased to see that we have narrowed the performance gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students. A number of our more able students also collected excellent ‘A’ Level results last week – a full 2 years early.”
Chair of Governors Rod Davies said
“We are delighted for all our students; they have been supported by staff and parents to really set new standards for the area. Coupled with improving attendance rates across both primary and secondary phases we can certainly say that the 3-16 school is starting to make an impact on student life chances”
