On Thursday 4th July, 135 Year 7 pupils took part in a sponsored Zumba workout in aid of Lepra, a charity that helps people in developing countries who are afflicted by this terrible disease. The workout was very energetic and lots of fun; Mrs Wyburn and Mr Tucker really enjoyed strutting their stuff!
Gill Williamson, a Lepra representative raised our awareness of this disease by delivering an informative and emotive assembly: she explained how people’s lives are affected by leprosy but also how easy and relatively inexpensive it is to cure: £25 will provide all the necessary medication to cure one person of leprosy.
Year 7’s commitment to raising money for this cause, culminated in a phenomenal final total of £1187.50 which will cure 47 people of this disease.
A special well done to the 25 pupils who raised over £25 and received a free alarm clock and particularly to Rebecca Rees and Bethan Daniel who raised over £50 each.
Thank you to parents, friends and neighbours who supported us in this worthwhile fundraising activity.
