The Year 8 Football team maintained their 100% start to the season with a convincing 9-1 victory over Abertillery.
The tone was set for the game when Iestyn Gwilliam ran in behind the defence to finish clinically within the first minute of the match. The goals came thick and fast throughout the first half and further goals followed by Sam Phillips who quickly completed his hatrick, Morgan Boulter and Iestyn Gwilliam who grabbed a second goal just before the interval.
The half time score was 6-0 and the team continued to play some quality football throughout the first half against an Abertillery team who never gave up trying to gain a foothold in the game.
Eleven changes were made at half time which goes to show the strength and depth of the current Year 8 squad.
Ebbw Fawr continued to impress in the second half and goals from Jack Steel and Elai Roberts sandwiched a consolation goal for Abertillery that their efforts on the day deserved.
Standout performances came from Jack Freegard and Ricky O’Callaghan in defence, Jacob Davies and Nathan Tunley in midfield and Sam Reynish as striker, although every player contributed to a quality display of attacking football.
The boys next fixture is against Brynmawr next Wednesday.
Well done boys.
