The Ebbw Fawr Year 11 rugby team on Tuesday recorded another superb result , making a big statement not only for the school but also the area defeating from Cardiff 21-8. The team produced a fantastic performance against one of the largest and most successful rugby schools in Wales, which has over 2000 pupils in attendance. The strong Ysgol Glantaf team were favourites going into the game with a number of their players representing Cardiff Blues under 16s regular basis this season. However on this occasion they came up against a quality Ebbw Fawr team which never lacks effort or commitment, thoroughly deserving their victory.
The Ebbw Fawr squad is made up of just 20 students in total, however what they lack in numbers they certainly make up for with outstanding team work and the ability to play for each other.
The victory itself was built upon a superb forwards display which dominated the set piece play throughout the game. The forwards superior physicality and strong ball carrying allowed the Ebbw Fawr back line a superb platform to play off. Fly half Ethan Phillips tortured Ysgol Glyntaf with some superb kicking from hand, ably supported by his half-back partner, Finley Nash.The back line was complemented with powerful tackling by centres Dayle Price and Ieaun Jones a constant feature throughout the match.The Ebbw Fawr try scorers were Callum Poole with one try and Dayle Price who put in a fine individual performance scoring two tries and three conversions making him the teams Man of the Match.
The Year 11 team which remains unbeaten this season now move into the last 8 of the Welsh Schools Under 16 Cup where they await the draw to find out who their next opponents will be.
