Ebbw Fawr Learning Community are definitely in the ‘Premier League’ as a result of their work with high flying football club Swansea City FC, and in particular their legendary former striker Lee Trudle.
Former Swans striker Lee Trundle visited pupils from the Primary Phase in Ebbw Vale and held a workshop talking about his life and career as a professional footballer with Swansea City FC.
Trundle, 38, who remains a hero at the Liberty Stadium club having scored 78 times for Swansea City from 2003 to 2007, is now the club’s ambassador and youth team coach.
The striker held a question and answers session about how to become a top footballer, and also shared his memories about his time playing with and against some of the biggest names in the game, and gave advice to the school children hoping to emulate his success. He also presented certificates to the year 5 and 6 pupils involved in the Premier League reading scheme.
Ebbw Fawr is working closely with the Premier League through the delivery of the Premier League reading scheme which is aimed at inspiring more pupils to read to a higher standard. Today’s visit was the icing on the cake for the pupils who have been working so hard at the school.
Mr Anthony Ager, Assistant Director said
“It was a real treat for the pupils to meet Lee. They were so excited to find out what it is like to be a professional footballer and he gave the pupils so valuable tips about the importance of hard work and dedication.”
In the weeks to come, Lee is hoping to return to Ebbw Fawr to put the pupils through their paces in a series of coaching sessions, giving the pupils an insight into what it is like to be a footballing superstar.
