We aim to work in partnership with parents and home learning is a key part of that. The home learning we set will enable parents to be actively involved in their child’s learning and to consolidate, extend and support the learning in the classroom.
Home learning will take many different forms including written, oral and practical activities, and will focus on developing reading, writing, oracy and numeracy as well as other key skills. There will be a progression of home learning activities throughout the primary phase.
Across the primary phase reading at home will be a key focus. Pupils will take home a book each day which is appropriate to the level at which they are working. Pupils can change their home books regularly and will have as a minimum a new book each week.
All pupils will have a reading record in which parents can record which books their children have read and make comments. This reading record will be looked at by school staff on a weekly basis.
There will be a progression of home learning activities throughout the primary phase.
To accompany their reading books and reading records, the pupils will be given a half termly project sheet with ideas for homework tasks linked to their topic.
