The next few weeks are an exciting time as you make some important decisions about the option subjects you’d like to take in Key Stage 4. Some of you will know exactly what subjects you want to opt for and some of you may have no idea yet…

PLEASE DON’T WORRY! We’ve put together a detailed programme of information to help you make your option choices.

Remember, all staff are available to answer questions, give advice and support you in choosing the options that are best for you.

What do I need to know?

Here are the key points:

How do I know what is right for me?

This is your decision to make

Don’t choose a subject because your friend is, or because you like the teacher (you might not have them for KS4)

Choose a subject you’re genuinely interested in, you think you’ll enjoy at KS4 or if it might help you in a future career.

Most importantly, don’t stress too much or overthink your choices.

If you’re not sure, ask the teacher for more information. Or you could even ask someone you know who has taken the subject.

This survey is for you to get an idea of the subjects that are being offered. It is NOT your final choices for next year. Some subjects from the survey may not run if there is not sufficient interest.

What options do I have to choose?

Core & Non-Core

For GCSE, you HAVE to take the core subjects. These are English, Maths, Science, Welsh and Religious Studies.

You will also have 1 compulsory PE lesson per fortnight.

On the pre-options survey you will need to make 3 subject choices, in addition to the core subjects. You will then do the same in March for your ‘real’ choices.
